Baby #2 is a....

We got to have our 20 week ultrasound with Baby #2 on Valentine's Day!  What a great Valentine's Day gift!  It was fun to see our Little Love on the black and white screen.  I love seeing the little feet and profile.  Everything looks good except for some urine backup in the kidneys that they are not too concerned about but will be checking again in two months.  I'm glad we'll have an excuse to see the baby again, but I am hoping it really is 'nothing to worry about.'
As for the gender....we planned to find out with number two.  So, we did.  However, as some of you know, when we found out with Tryg, it was in the middle of getting results from genetic testing we had done very early on.  So, literally, I was on the phone, in my office at work, with the Genetic Counselor totally crying as she was telling me that all of the tests came back clear and normal (after having been told before that he had a 95% chance of having a major defect).  Then she asked, "Do you want to know the gender?"  I knew I wanted to know and we had planned to find out but I was not in a clear state of mind to try to 'find out in a good way.'  So, I said, "Yes, I do." and she told me he was a boy over the phone as I was standing in my office.  I was thrilled!  However, had I been thinking, I would have handed the phone to a co-worker so she could write it down and Erik and I could have found out together and not over the phone at work!

So, this time we had a plan....we decided to do a "Gender Reveal Party!"  I had heard of people doing them online but had never seen one in 'real life.'  But I thought it would be a nice way of 'making up' for the way we found out with Tryg.  And it was!  It was very fun!

We decided that we'd ALL find out together --including Erik and me!  So, we made sure the ultrasound tech didn't show us anything.  Then, after our ultrasound on Valentine's Day, we had the tech email our friend, Carol.  Her job was to make the reveal cake...and of course, NOT tell ANYONE the gender.  This was a lot of pressure for her and she took her job VERY seriously!  She didn't even tell her husband or her parents, who were offering to help with the cake!  Then we invited a few friends and family to join us in our Dr. Seuss themed reveal!

I had a lot of fun with the Dr. Seuss theme!  I figured it was gender neutral and there are so many fun things to do with it.  Of course we had green eggs and ham (sandwiches), red fish blue fish, some decorations and a bunch of books...
"Thing 1 = Big Brother" -the only way I could get him to stop for a photo
And for the BIG REVEAL....we brought the cake out to the middle of the living room for everyone to see.  We even had an Auntie on Skype and another one a phone with video being recorded.

So, #2 is a...
A BOY!!
